A bit about Anna
Born in Poland and raised in Canada, Anna has made New Zealand home for the past 30 years.
Anna lives and works as a ceramic artist based in Piha, West Auckland, where she draws inspiration from the raw, organic forms and textures found in her environment. She works intuitively, allowing the clay to guide the development of her creations. A commitment to exploring the boundaries of the material and experimenting with new techniques serves as a key source of her creativity. Anna strives to establish a dynamic tension between her pieces and the viewer, creating a dialogue through the interplay of formal elements. Her vessels evoke psychological states of being by incorporating aspects such as rips, holes, punctures, protrusions, seams, and movement, all of which reflect the fragility of the human condition and themes of emergence and transformation. Her work has been received several awards for the explorative technique, tension and intrigue created in her works.
Since graduating from Elam School of Fine Arts in 2009, Anna has been immersed in the education sector (teaching Art, Art History and Technology), and has recently returned to her studio practice, focusing on making works for exhibition and domestic collections. However, teaching is still in her blood. She is the co-founder of Creative Foundations, which offers quality art and clay workshops in the local community.
